I planned on leaving on March 11th, two days ago, but there were a lot of things that I needed to take care of before I could go. I was finally ready today. I got in the car around 1:00 pm and headed for my first stop, Pigeon Forge, TN.
I checked hotel rates on my new smart phone. I found one with what seemed like a really good rate. I didn't think I'd do much better after I got there so I went ahead and booked a hotel online with my phone, a first for me. It was only $30 a night, including breakfast. How bad could that be? Well, after I got to town I found that many of the hotels, unlike hotels in most places, have their rates displayed on their signs so comparison shopping is very easy. I also found that $30 isn't really a cheap hotel in Pigeon Forge these days. I could have gotten a room for under $20 a night, with breakfast. It looks like the state of the economy is impacting their business.
The drive was uneventful. I didn't realize there was something I forgot to pack, I didn't panic over something I forgot to do. I got off to a good start.
