I headed for the Dallas Museum of Art today.  I parked in the same lot as yesterday, which is diagonally across from the museum, and headed in.  My first surprise was that the museum is free, always a pleasant surprise.  They did have one exhibit, The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece, that they charged for but I wasn't sure I'd have time to see it so I didn't buy a ticket.  That turned out to be a wise choice.

The layout of the museum is very confusing.  Their map shows two floors.  On each of the floors they show multiple levels.  Now I tend to think of floor and level as being synonymous but they aren't in this building.  The same levels sometimes appear on both of the floors but with different layouts.  The map only shows large sections and there's not enough detail to really tell where you are.

I first went through their European art section.  After seeing how big that section was and how small it appeared on the map I got some idea just how large the museum is.  That might have been the only time the map was useful.

The museum has an encyclopaedic collection.  They don't have much depth in many areas but there are some areas where they excel.  Their collection of ancient South and Central American art is quite good, they have a great collection of Piet Mondrian's work covering his entire career and I was impressed by the size of their collection of South Asian art.  I understand they have an extensive contemporary art collection but that section of the museum was closed as they prepare for a show.  I also didn't get to see their sculpture garden because it was closed due to the rain that started soon after I arrived.

I took until just slightly before closing to go through their permanent collection.  I headed out into the rain.  I'm glad I was parked diagonally across from the museum.  I headed for Fort Worth for dinner.  On the way there the rain finally stopped.  I found parking and headed for the Woodshed Smokehouse.

I knew I wasn't going to be eating vegetarian tonight.  I got portions of their lamb brisket, beef brisket, pulled pork and beef ribs.  I had never had lamp brisket before.  I can't say I'm a fan.  Everything else was tasty although I did have some minor quibbles with everything.

Just as I was leaving I got a call but when I answered I didn't hear anything.  I called back but I still couldn't hear anything.  I tried calling some numbers that I was sure I should hear something but all I got was silence.  My Android phone has many bugs but this is a new one.  I tried resetting the phone but it still didn't work.  I tried pulling out the battery for a while but still nothing.  I left the battery run down and re-charged it.  Finally, it started working again.  I was afraid I wouldn't have a phone for the rest of my trip.
