I checked out of my hotel in Healy and headed for Fairbanks.  I got to Fairbanks relatively early so I decided to go see something before heading to my hotel.  I set my GPS to lead me to the Museum of the North on the University of Alaska campus.

The museum is in a modern building the design of which is intended to convey a sense of Alaska, evoking mountains, glaciers and the Northern Lights.  I don't know that I would have seen any of that without being told but I did think it was an interesting building.  The collection covered a wide range of subjects about Alaska including history, art, the animals, past and present, and the Aurora Borealis.

I was at the museum until their 9:00pm closing time.  Then I took some pictures of the outside of the building.  I started talking to a German man who was traveling around the US and Canada in a camper he had shipped from Germany.  And I thought I had brought my car a long way!

I got to my hotel late.  The Internet connection was very good.  My computer at home wasn't talking to me for a while but it just started working again yesterday.  I spent some time trying to get caught up on e-mail.  Buried in the hundreds of e-mails that piled up was one from Adorama informing me that they shipped the lens cap I ordered weeks ago but has been backordered.  I had given them the address of the guide company in Talkeetna.  When it was still backordered when I finished my mountaineering class I changed the ship to address before leaving town so it would be shipped to my house in Virginia but, for some reason, they didn't do that.  Something else to do tomorrow.
