Jim and I drove over to Boundary Peak today.  We first drove to what is, apparently, the main trailhead although we didn't find it when we were here last year.  The snow started at around 8,700 feet.  We then drove to the highest point we reached with my Honda Odyssey minivan last year.  It was much easier this year with 4-wheel drive.  We then drove around to a road that approaches the mountain from the north via the Queen Mine.  We made it to the mine at around 9,000 feet but beyond that point the snow was too deep to continue driving.  We parked the car and walked up to the road to the trailhead we found last year at 9,800 feet.  We followed that trail up to around 10,800 feet.  We had to go around lots of patches of snow.  Following the trail was difficult but since we had been there before we managed to find our way to a point where we could see the rest of our route up the mountain.

Unfortunately, it looked like it was just too snowy to climb.  We walked back to the car and then drove back to Tonopah.  Jim called some friends who were planning on joining us and let them know what we saw.  They decided they weren't going to try climbing it, which is the same conclusion Jim and I had reached.

Tomorrow we're going to see if we can arrange to go on a turquoise mine tour with Otteson's Turquoise.  If we can, then we'll do that and spend another night at the Clown Motel  If not, then we'll drive back to Las Vegas, where I'll leave Jim to arrange an earlier flight home while I go to Flagstaff to see whether I have better luck with Humphreys Peak, the highest point in Arizona.
