There are some new readers to the journal, so I wanted to explain OTFW.  I always have a camera in my lap when I'm driving the bus.  Any time I see something I think is cool, or interesting, or colorful, I take a picture Out The Front Window, or sometimes Out The Side Window.  Most times I have no idea what it is, it just is and I need a photo!!  Only a couple of close calls in all these years.

Friday Aug 2.  We left Prevost in the morning and drove to Riviere-du-Loup.  Arriving in the afternoon, gave us a chance to check out the whale watching tours for the next day, and make a run to WalMart.  Dinner in the rigs for the first time in a few days.

Sat. Aug 3--Took the 9AM whale watching tour out of Riviere-du-Loup and had a wonderful experience.  We were very fortunate to see 4 different species of whales--Minke whales that grow 6 to 9 meters, Humpbacks that grow to 11 to 13 meters, Fins, 18 to 21 meters, and Blue whales, the largest at 20 to 25 meters.  We also saw some seals.  One of the video clips has the Fin whales swimming right under the bowsprit of the boat, and you can hear them blowing.  Check it out.  I didn't get a photo of the humpback, as I was stuffing my face with a sandwich.  Oh well.

The RV park people were very accommodating, allowing us to leave our sites later than normal. No sooner had I hitched up the Honda, the next renter was waiting right behind me to pull in.  We drove a short distance to Mont Joli for the night.

Sunday Aug 4--You know when someone tells you about a place it's yah, ok.  Then another person says the same, and it's hum, maybe.  Then you hear the same thing again, and again, and it's OK, let's get going, what are we waiting for.  That's what happened for today's drive.  We were originally going to turn south at Riviere-du-Loup and head into New Brunswick.  But instead, we altered course and drove along the beautiful coastline of the Gaspe Peninsula. We left the truck stop at 7AM and arrived at Perce at 2:30PM.  Took lots of photos. This is one of the prettiest drives I have ever taken.  Even though the fog came in around 10:30, it was still awesome.  The Gaspe is where the Appalachian Mountains terminate.  As far as I know, there are no grades in the US that compare with some here--between 7 and 17 per cent.  Though steep, they were fairly short, both up and down.  The bus was in 2nd gear going up, and 3rd gear coming down, with the jake brake on high.

Monday Aug 5--Our neighbor in the RV park, gave us 3 tickets for a boat tour of Perce Rock, and Bonaventure Island.  Perce (pier say) is French for pierce.  Get it??  Janet, Jean and I got on the boat at 9AM.  Skies were threatening for more fog and / or rain.  Our tour went to Perce Rock first, and we learned it is sandstone and crumbles rather easily.  Leaving the rock, we headed to Bonaventure, and the fog came in.  Photos are not real great, but it is what it is.  We did learn about some of the birds that nest on the island, all migratory except for the sea gull.  By the time our boat reached the dock on the island, there was little point to taking a hike of any sort, so we stayed on board and went back to Perce.  Mike met us ad the dock, we walked around a bit, and then found a place to eat lunch.  During lunch, the sky opened up with lighting, thunder, and heavy rain.  (This is about the time we would have been heading back to the dock if we stayed on the island.  Thank you God.)

On the road again tomorrow, don't have a destination, but I'll see you there.

And the adventure continues,

Ken
