San Bernardino to Pismo Beach - Distance travelled: 244 miles

Original plan on leaving San Bernardino had been to get up really early and get a good start on the road and head north to a vineyard, hook up for the night and sample the wines! It didn't quite go to plan!  With a few more loose ends to tie up in the morning we set off a lot later than anticipated, we also decided on a new end point – Morro Bay to sleep by the beach with a stop for some wine on the way!!

First sight of the Pacific as we headed west put a smile on Elvis’s face that stretched from ear to ear!!  This really felt like home now! We took the coastal route north – the scenery couldn’t get much better, ocean views on the left hand side and vineyards on the right!  This was living!  Such was the beauty as we drove through Pismo Beach that we decided to end our day of driving and hook up there about 40 miles south of our planned destination.  It was about 5.30, we had turned into an expensive RV park but with a pitch only 50 yards from the sand dunes it was worthy of the price!  We hooked up and headed straight to the beach, boy did the fine powdery sand feel good between your toes!

We watched the sun start to dip and headed back to camp – we had carried a portable grill around with us for the past 2 weeks and still had not put it together but had some chicken and sweet corn to grill so needs must!  An hour later all the parts in the box were assembled (and no spare pieces!) and the chicken was a-cooking!  Wine (which we had bought along the way) was poured and London was asleep in her cot for the night – life really is good!  Being back in Mac and all the fresh air worked wonders for London and her sleep patterns – 9 hours solid sleep, a feed at 5am then back to sleep until 9am when we scrambled out of bed and hit the beach again for a morning walk and London’s first dip in the Pacific – the water was icy cold but not a squawk out of her, water really does seem to be in her genes!

We were on the road again by midday – hearts sinking as we left the Pacific views but with the next stop being Yosemite we know we have a picture book of amazing scenery ahead of us which softens the blow of leaving!
