We set off at about 10 am on the 9th of feb. Charlie picked up the car from the rental place and then coat me and we went 2 get Jim and Helen. The car was a automatic which i havent driven before so i was a bit apprehensive about it. Anyway we set off and after a bit of trouble negotiating our way out of sydney we were on out way. 1st stop was to be Canberra for a night. It was basically 1 road all the way there so the driving wasnt that difficult. Charlie drove for the first part then i took over half way down. It wwas really weird to be driving again!! Anyway the journey was uneventful and we arrived in canberra mid afternoon. We checked into our hostel and set off to do the tourist thing. Having the car was handy as canberra is quite spread out and we were short of time. We visited the National Portrait gallery which was all photographic portraits of people from australia. Not just famous people but also joe nobody from backsville next the the middle of nowhere who runs a sheep farm! We also went to the flag parade where all the countries in the world have their flag to represent them.

After that we visited the National Gallery which has alsorts of art work, old to modern, aboriginal and asian, it was cool. Finally on that day we passed by old parliment house on our way to the new one which is a very obscure building. There was a film crew from 7 news there getting ready to film a news report - we stood and watched for a while hoping it would be live so we could walk past!

Canberra is a weird place, it looks nice and is very clean but it lacks an atmosphere and seems a bit forced. Which i supposed it would be when you think the only reason its there is because they couldnt decide between Sydney and Melbourne as capital so they built a new one! Even at rush hour the traffic was v quiet.

Anyway we went out for a meal and then back to the hostel for a good nights sleep. In the morning we loaded up the car and went to the National Science museum - which was very cool. Best bit was the verical slide we all went down. We had to wear boiler suits and socks and literally hand from a bar above the slide. It was sooooo scary but you had to let go once you were hanging. I went 1st! It was a weird feeling to let go - but we just slide down the slide. Giggles from all of us ensued!

Before we left Canberra we went to the National War memorial - which was big and im sure interesting but we didnt really has that much time to look around before we set off.

I drove out of Canberra towards our next stop which took us a bit longer than expected to reach. Jim took over driving and we ended up going the worng way - i dont mean it was his fault. So it ended up taking us about 6 hours to reach lakes entrance where we stayed for a night and left early in the morning eventually arriveing in Melbourne on the Friday afternoon!
