Imagine the secret garden on a bigger scale with less greenery...and you have Lucca.
This beautiful town is bound by an ancient wall. Its streets are somewhat similar to Florence, just on a smaller scale and I think therein lies it beauty. Everyone here is very settled - there is an air of community and friendship about it. And I have found some beautiful 'secret' gardens which are like courtyards for apartment buildings that look like they belong in the botanical gardens. As you can tell - I love it here.
We are actually staying in an apartment here. And there is the cutest little 80y/o Italian lady across the way. She keeps inviting us over for dinner!!
So I have been very busy since my arrival. First night we went to a restaurant called the black sheep (thats the English translation). The food was divine - i had a 4 cheese calzone which I was told I could never finish =D. But the most interesting thing about the restaurant was the employees - many were people with a disability. Apparently this restaurant is popular with Intrepid travelers and I can see why. The only issue was the alcohol. Or rather the amount we managed to consume. Need I say it was very good?
The following day we went on a day trip to Pisa. And yes I had horrible touristy food and climbed the famous leaning tower for some ridiculous price. But I must admit it was worth every euro. It was even more enjoyable than the duomo in Florence. The stairs are so worn that the stone has become extremely slippery and the angle of the tower is completely disorientating when combined with a spiral staircase. You can image how I handled that! All in all very enjoyable.
Today I have to say has been one of my favorites. It started at 7am for me. I went exploring and managed to follow my nose (literally) to a bakery (not a shop though). The smell from the window was divine and the employees thought I was hilarious with my excitement. Then we hired bicycles and went for a ride around the walls of the town and beyond to the gorgeous country side. I can hardly walk now but it was well worth it for sight the hot Italian who served us coffee!
And despite all this the day is not finished. Tonight we are cooking Italian food with our tour leader! Plenty of wine is on the menu I feel... (I will update later)
So thats it for now.
- Arrivederci!

All this talk of gardens and not a single picture? Pity. The blog is working out well though, we should do one next time.
The lack of pictures is not mu fault! Its well, someone elses. The person who put the virus on the computer in Lucca!
