I arrived at Changi Airport on the 23rd April 2011 at around 11pm to catch a direct flight from Singapore Changi Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (KL0836, 0020hrs).
If you are curious, here's the food menu:
Dinner
Curry Chicken with rice
Tuna with Tomato
Coconut Cheesecake
Breakfast
Omelet, Sausage, Hash Brown
Fruit Platter
Yogurt
After a grueling 12 1/2 hours flight, I finally arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Pitt & Ian were there to welcome me with open arms!
Having bought the Voordeelurenkaart Card, we bought the train ticket at the automated machine. For all you unfamiliar with the Voordeelurenkaart Card, this card costs 55 Euro for a Year and its most distinct benefit is that it provides the user, as well as three other person, with a 40% discount on all NS trains. Hence, this is definitely a worthwhile investment if you decide to stay in Netherlands for an extended period of time!
The train ride cost 13.20 Euro for a single trip. As we took the direct Fyra train, we had to paid a supplement. This helped us save about an hour's worth of journey time.
The train ride was smooth and rather enjoyable. I'm very impressed with the quality of the public transport here and ... this is coming from someone who is living in a country with a first class public transport system.
Arriving at the Breda Train Station, Pitt's aunt was here to fetch us home and the car journey is about 10mins.
Upon reaching, we unpacked my luggage and got ready for some exploring!
We cycled to Centrum and park our bike at a shop with free bicycle valet.
We strolled along the idyllic side streets as well as the bustling main street. We walk towards our main goal, one of the most important monument in Breda, the Grote kerk, or Church of our lady. Its 18 century gothic architecture really astounded me.
Following which, we cycled back for dinner and we retired for a short break. After, feeling slightly peckish, we decided to buy some fries, or friets, as they are also known.
We ordered a large fries that comes with special sauce. What is the special sauce, you may ask - it is in fact a mixture of mayo, ketchup & onions.
In all, this sums up my first day in Europe. What a long yet satisfying day it has been.
Cheers,
Teinchin
