Four Days in Florence!

From Lisa:
In such a big city there was a lot to see, so we set aside 4 days to explore the city and the surrounding areas of Chianti and Tuscany. We found a great hostel in the center of the city -- within walking distance to the Piazza Duomo and of course, the gelato stands! We even cooked our own version of a Tuscan feast in the kitchen -- pesto with fresh Parma. I say "we", but it was Cheryl who was the chef, I just poured the wine!

Our friend Paulien, the police officer from the Netherlands we'd met in Rome, was to be in Florence at the same time, so we were lucky enough to meet her for a great pizza dinner and an impromptu evening concert in front of the Uffizi Museum.

Florence is a beautiful city -- so much history of the Renaissance period...Michelangelo, Dante, Leonardo, Machiavelli, it was tough to see it all. We did spend some time studying where Leonardo Da Vinci spent his time while in Florence. And of course, we ate the wonderful Italian pizzas and specialties of the area.

From Cheryl:
Although Florence had so much to see and do, I really enjoyed a little side trip to Fiesole, on the outskirts of Florence.  It was high up in the mountains and away from the "city" of Florence.  We took about an hour or so just to hang out in a little cafe overlooking the best view and to sip on a few Cafe's (Espresso's).

Seeing Paulien again was nice.  She is now home in the Netherlands and we hope to head that way soon so we can visit her (and her family) before heading back to the states!

BTW - I made the video of the music at the Uffizi hoping I could share the beauty of that night with you all.  The wonderful music under the stars with all the monuments and statues lit up around us..  Unfortunately, I took the video in a portrait format, and it can only be posted in landscape..  So, turn your head sideways and ENJOY!!

Bootleg Uffizi!
Wow!! My first bootleg Uffizi video! That was incredible!! I think I will need to play that very beautiful and peaceful music on a loop throughout Nov and Dec and Jan in order to get me through year-end at work!! (I know, you've probably forgotten all about that torturous time of year already). Your adventure is breathtaking and I still am so excited for you! Best travels and continue to keep us all posted!
