HOME!!!!

From Lisa:
What a great place to be for the holidays!! Sandy, Steve, and Ryan have been kind enough to open up their home for us to stay for the couple of weeks we're back in the States before heading to South Africa on January 9th! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

After 13 weeks backpacking through Europe and 10 weeks in the Mexican Jungle -- it is SO nice to be back with family and friends for Christmas. The tree smells so good and the decorations are beautiful. And we have MEAT to eat!! Woo Hoo! Mexico was a bit challenging with only a vegetarian menu, but I'm fast making up for lost time. The Outback restaurant gift certificates were most welcome. We're headed to New Orleans for the New Year and some yummy Cajun food, too!

It's impossible to describe how awesome the Mexican beach stay in Pez Maya, with so much diving and coral reef research, was to experience -- even without running water or a refrigerator. :-) It was an incredible time of personal growth to face physical and mental challenges neither of us had faced in quite a long time. We carried scuba gear and hoisted heavy tanks while cramming our heads full of species of fish and coral. We met friends that I'm sure we'll carry with us for other travels around the world -- and I gained a new appreciation for the power of the ocean and what it can do to a small boat! :-) We've put in a few of our favorite pictures of the trip for you to enjoy.

Hope you've had fun with us for the Mexican "Total Immersion" adventure. Hang on for even more fun as we head to South Africa to the Karongwe and Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserves for Big 5 Animal Studies and reserve impact management. Should be some great photo ops! :-) Take care everyone and Happy New Year!!

From Cheryl:

It is hard to believe how fast these 10 weeks in Mexico went.  I almost bugged out on week 1 because I was not sure I could, or even wanted to continue with the challenge I could see before us.  I am SO glad we both stuck it out!  I know it is a cliche, but you never know what you are capable of until you really try and try hard!  This was the most physically and mentally challenging thing I have done in some time and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to challenge myself in these ways.  It gives me a feeling of hope and excitement for whatever lies ahead of me!

Being home..  that is a great feeling.  The holidays, friends, and family have been a wonderful home coming!  I truly miss my Pez Maya home and family a bunch too!  I hope you all see this and know that I am thinking of you and hoping you are all well and traveling safe!

South Africa??  Who even knows what to expect and what challenges lie ahead, but, I know anything is possible!

Have a Happy New Year!!  Feliz Ano Nueve!!
