Arrived in Cancun!

Today we arrived safely in Cancun! The past week has been a complete whirlwind of visiting friends and family (fun stuff!), unpacking from Europe and re-packing all of our gear for Mexico (not so fun stuff!).
We took off early this morning and landed in a windy and rainy Cancun. We don't meet up with the rest of the group until tomorrow morning when they take us to the "base", so we've had the afternoon in Playa Del Carmen to hang out by the beach and enjoy our last few hours before the expedition begins. The water is beautiful and the clouds are keeping it cool. YEA! Not sure when we'll have Internet access again, but be sure we'll let everyone know all the details of the two hour trip into the jungle and our arrival at the base camp. Should be interesting!! Cheryl's been studying her fishes like mad and I've been stuffing the Latin names of coral into my head until it's almost full. :-)

Even though the weather on day one in Mexico has not been wonderful, I can already tell that living here for 10 weeks will be a wonderful experience. So many new things to learn, I can't wait! I feel like I have been given a second chance to try something completely new to me and I am ready to embrace it full force!
I ran into about 5 people who will be on the Pez Maya expedition and another 20 that are here on other GVI trips. What a great group of people! From many countries, many backgrounds, different experiences, and all ages. The commonality is a passion for the water, diving, and understanding more about the underwater world all around us. This will be a great trip..
Ole! (Well, I can't keep using PACE now!! But, I promise to come up with something better than Ole!)

Hey you guys.. I was just in Playa Del Carmen on Saturday on a cruise. It was pouring but lots and lots of fun...I hope that you guys are having a great time...

I didn't realize how much I missed the hugs. I hope you both enjoy the next phrase of your adventure and I can't wait to see the pictures. Here's a phrase you must learn while visiting Cancun. It's an important one.

Wow! Can't wait to learn right along side of you. A good friend of mine spent 3 yrs in Saipan, in Pharmacy, just for that very reason: water, diving, and underwater life. She needs to know about this place, if she doesn't already. Enjoy the fish and coral-Still want to know about the spine extending off the butt, Lisa-LOL. Debbie :)
