We eventually decided to have a few days in Washington DC before heading home. Long flight up from Buenos Aires so a short stop-over was just what we needed. First day was a rest day and we spent most of it asleep. Next, and only full, day we did the city tour on a hop-on hop-off tram. We know now that you really do need much more than a day to do the place any kind of justice. We did however get off to look at the Capiotl Building, the White House, the cathedral and part of the Smithsonian Air & Space museum and saw much more from the tram whilst travelling about. We've done quite a few cathedrals over the last nine months but nonetheless we would still recommend seeing this one if you are in the area, its really impressive. We took advantage of a free guided tour which was brilliant, interesting and well delivered. The city generally is very neat, clean and tidy. The public/civic buildings are all huge and dead imposing, made of stone in classical styles.

All too soon we were boarding our last but one, 32nd, flight with three groups of young school kids, joy oh joy.
