Today has been...long. Got left the house at 8 to get the ferry at 12, stopping off for McDonald's breakfast on the way and just completed the 400 mile drive to Metz in France which is our stop off for the night (8pm).

In true Wengler style, we went to the wrong Novotel first in an area which seemed to have been abandoned by all but a Japanese family and some sad looking couple. Thankfully we got back on the road and found our much more likely with an open on-site restaurant and English speaking staff!

I had veal for dinner, with a glass of Chablis followed by a cheese board! It's got to be done :) martins cote de beouff tasted a bit off to me but perhaps that's just my commoner taste buds, and the veal was ok. Tender but not a strong flavour.

About to get some kip ready for the 800k drive to Jihlava tomorrow!

Highlights of today:

-Drove past a place called 'loon plague'
-Saw a very odd house with loads of metal model planes stuck on to it and around the grounds, and soldiers painted onto the walls - think the grand house in twister but instead of wind chimes metal planes :|
-Visited a Carrefour service station which I was excited about from a work point of view :) they sold quiche Lorraine in snack packs and we sourced some own-label crisps which were a good imitation of crunch Cheetos of America road trip fame!
-Random Jesus statue with gold crown and blood detail in a field

Oh, and the ferry ride was cool if not absolutely jam packed with French kids smoking all over the place (!!) and a little wobbly. Thank god got anti-travel sick pills :)

Xx
