Flowers and Butterflies
Last night Wendi and I decided that we would take the ferry back to Vancouver Island for a visit to Butchart Gardens. We had been to the Gardens about 26 years ago and enjoyed it so much then that it beckoned us to come back again. Since we missed our usual ferry to Vancouver Island we decided to take the one from Vesuvius with is located just a little north of Bill's place. We parked in the waiting area and picked up a coffee and breakfast munchies in a nearby café. This ferry trip was much shorter than our regular one and we arrived just outside the town of Duncan. After getting slightly lost we eventually found our way to the Trans Canada Highway and proceeded south toward Victoria. After a lovely drive along the coast of the Georgia Strait we came eventually to the the Gardens. We were a little miffed along the way because there were a number of lookout areas along the way that had great views but they were all geared up for people who were traveling north. Because of the winding roads it would have been unsafe for us south bound travelers to turn into these spots. Oh well, the view was still really enjoyable along the way.
Bill had warned us the the price to get into the Gardens was quite expensive but we were just a little shocked when they wanted $25.00 each from us. After our visit though we agreed that the money was well spent. I'll spare you the details but I will tell you that it is a beautiful location and is a must visit for anybody in the region. I will let the pictures posted with this entry do the talking . . .
After spending several hours at the Gardens we headed back to the ferry and since we had some time to spare before our ferry departed we decided to visit the nearby Victoria Butterfly Gardens. We spent about an hour there and then headed over to pick up the ferry back to Saltspring.
While we were gone Bill had the house to himself and he spent the day getting various chores done and clearing up some business matters. We had burgers for dinner and then headed out to The Treehouse Café for coffee and dessert. There was a very good female singer (sorry, I forgot her name) and we sat in on two of her sets. Another great ending to a great day. We told Bill that we are really going to miss being in Saltspring and thanked him for his hospitality. Tomorrow we are heading to our friend, Lyndia Terre's place in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island.
