Where I stayed
However, Dalyan is by far the most tourist oriented place we have visited and how Steve did not succumb to the "Full English Breakfast" signs is anyone's guess. That said, it is a stunning setting, based on a river with ancient tombs carved out of the rocks overlooking the town. We enjoyed all the sites by boat including the nearby mud baths, lake and beach that's so gorgeous even the turtles chose it as a breeding ground!
Leaving our most comfortable Dalyan guesthouse we headed further along the coast to the peace and isolation of Kabak and our "simple" accommodation, described by Steve as a B&Q shed on stilts, but with a better view than most
Views are great but often mean long hikes and this was no exception. We were perched on the hill above the beach and set out one day in search of a swim in the sea, 1 1/2 hours later down a long and winding road we reached the beach and cooled off, on the way back we chose the shorter path - what a mistake - it only took us 1/2 an hour but it was so steep and challenging we were both on the verge of death by the time we reached the village. Luckily there was a saviour waiting for us in the form of an old lady shopkeeper who sat us down and provided us with grapes picked straight from the vine and figs straight from the tree. She's our hero!
After a couple of nights in the shed we headed further along the coast to a far more sophisticated location - our room in Kas was even equipped with BBC News! Kas is beautifully located on the coast and this time we enjoyed it by sea kayak, paddling to nearby islands and over submerged ruins, even being serenaded by a couple of bagpipers passing by on a gullet - fabulous day if a little energetic - at least carrying the backpacks should be a little easier now we've built up our arm muscles!
And if any of you think that we are adventurous, yesterday we met a Welsh guy who is in the middle of cycling from Caerphilly to China!!! Now that is hardcore!
