Cat Tien National Park

This morning, after a little bit of work at Matt's apartment, we hit the road heading for Cat Tien National Park. The park is situated about 150km north east of Ho Chi Minh City. If we thought that crossing the road yesterday was death defying, the drive up the Cat Tien was a level above that (whatever that may be?).
It took us about 3 hours but when we arrived it was fantastic. First step for us was to take a short boat ride across the Dong Nai river, passing an island home to a primate rescue centre. Once across it was so calm and quiet, it was a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
After dropping our bags, we headed down to the bear sanctuary. Straight away we were invited to head off and watch the feeding of a rescued leopard. While only grabbing a glimpse of the leopard, we got extremely close to one of the local snakes. Simon, who is a reptile nut, didn't miss the opportunity and picked up the little snake. The snake was a young long nosed vine snake, when it is fully grown it will change becoming a bright green colour. Apparently it was non venomous, we hoped so anyway.
This afternoon Matt showed us around the sanctuary, showing us some of the projects he would like us to work on. We have about three days up here which should enough to make a start, it should be great fun!
