Jin Yan is a professor at our school and also a pretty famous cellist.  She gave a performance at our concert hall.  The clip you see here is her and another violinist professor.

Afterward I went to Nature's.  We went out with a few buds for a little music of our own in the form of karaoke.  The place is called KTV (Karaoke TV I guess).  They made me sing one of the English songs they have on tap, "Hotel California".  Luckily the place was sparse because the key of the song was way to high for me.  It was bad.  They sang a few more Chinese ballads and I made a partial recovery with the Beatles "Yesterday".

The Freshman classes have begun.  They are young, full of energy and love the fact an American is there.  They are so curious about me but they all ask the same questions which is fine.  They all want me to sing a song in class too.  I sang the Star Spangled Banner believe it or not.  I just couldn't think of anything else on the spot.  I sang it okay.  In a certain way they sorta want me to be their puppet entertainer.  I played along a bit but entertaining gets tiring.  It's going to be fun but I could feel my voice already start to get strained during Tuesday's class.  Other teach's already told me I'll have to learn to use my diaphragm better.

I had 50 students in my 3-year program class.  Way to many I think so I'll have to plan accordingly.  Plus there were about 8 Japanese majors who just wanted to sit in my class because they heard this American dude was going to be teaching.  I told 'em they could but that I can't include them in everything.  They'll just have to sit there.

I think I'm the most popular guy on campus these days.  I went to English corner to talk with the students and everyone was pushing over eachother to talk to me.  Oh yes, I like being the cool guy but I can feel the wave coming.  They all want to be my special buddy on campus.  As far as problems go, it's probably the best "problem" to have but I feel I will have to be pretty stern about my boundaries.  I can't give my # out to everyone.  So I can't complain too much but ya know.

So the chaos begins.  I've got a lot of book keeping but luckily there is a 7 day holiday next week.  Plus the senior classes I have are going to be gone for 40 days doing internships helping to teach at different schools around Guangdong.  So this lets me ease in to things.  For the 7 day holiday I think I will just go with Forest to his hometown as I still have business left to do for my visa, ugh....

That's all for now! Zai jian folks and Wo xiang ni!
