The moon had set and the winds had died and we were moving with the current under a sky crazy with stars. With the pattern of colored flashing navigation lights along the horizon I used the chart to deduce our position: almost to Isle de Yeu already.

A couple fishing boats chugged nearby and flicked a spotlight at us. We were steering close to their nets. We saw lines of floats and carefully kept a distance. The horizon was starting to glow. Libellule made me a hot drink. De-De came up yawning. The island beaches were visible.

Just after sunrise we reached the channel marker, kicked on the engine, and dropped the sails. This was the same harbor we'd visited heading south last December in frosty conditions, where I'd been too tired and cold to even leave the boat. We motored up to the very same dock and backed the boat into the slip to allow easy boarding via the rear platform that we didn't have on the boat back then.

The storefront of the town faced the working harbor where colorful fishing boats were unloading the night's catch. On a tip we walked up to a vessel just in, and walked away with two silver tuna costing only five euros apiece. The first one we cleaned and cut into firm steaks while seagulls watched. A bit of the delicious meat we ate raw, and the rest met the barbeque and rendered each of us two full size servings.

It was a peaceful afternoon in the little island harbor, fishing boats coming in, the tide moving up and down, and finally the sun dropping colorful behind clouds.

Here is the first photo from today.
