The weather has finally cleared although the temps still don't feel like summer. With enough clothes on it was a good riding day. I made it to both Ausable Chasm and High Falls Gorge. Both places are on the Ausable River and Rt. 86 follows the river for quite a few miles making for a beautiful drive through the Adirondacks. There are many towns along the way, but all are small and quaint. Lake Placid was probably the biggest town I went through and that wasn’t all that busy.

I took the raft ride at Ausable Chasm . We were able to see more of the rock formations along the cut from the river. It was a relatively slow easy ride, but nice. High Falls is another self-guided walk along and down the side of the river. One good thing about all of the rain, the falls in both places are still running high like they do in the spring when the snow melts. I asked the guide on the raft trip if the water was higher than normal for the time of year. He said it’s running at almost twice the normal volume for this time.

I rode 225 miles today and never saw a Walmart. I didn’t even find a gas station big enough to have pay at the pump card readers. What a wonderful area!
