Today we have our final drive from Lake Tekapo back to Christchurch where we will catch a flight up to Hamilton. It was an uneventful drive with a stop at Geraldine for a cuppa and another stop at Ashburton for breakfast.
When we arrived in Christchurch we took a drive into the city to see how things were after the quake. Things seemed to have settled down somewhat but the main part of the city was still cordoned off. From there we headed out to Avonside where there had been more damage to roads (there are a few pictures attached). We did not want to make a nuisance of ourselves so kept away from cleanups and moved on fairly quickly. It is almost unimaginable that so much damage has occurred. Even though we went through the quake ourselves we never thought that it would have caused so much devastation. Our hearts go out to all that have been affected and we pray that their lives can return to some normality soon. The amazing thing about it all though is how the community has pulled together to support one another in this time of need. What a credit to the human spirit to see such an outpouring of human kindness.
Off to the NZ family now for the last few days of our trip.

Praise God that He kept you both safe! Happy travels for the rest of your journey. See you soon!
We've had a trip down nostalgia lane looking at your pictures of this beautiful country. Fortunately, scenery doesn't change much, and still looks like it did in 1979 when we spent 3 weeks caravanning in the South Is. And we DID make it to Milford Sound, having a terrific boat trip down the Sound, and experiencing the largest biting sandflies ever!! Have a great family time in Hamilton.
