Saturday morning, Kerrin and Wayne headed for what we thought was the nearest grocery store. We had passed some on the way in the previous evening, so we back tracked to a store on The Carolina Commons called Harris Teater. This turned out to be a very nice fairly upmarket large grocery store with very friendly people - most of the Kentucky twang was gone from their accents so we could actually understand what people were saying - nice for a change...
When we came to pay for our groceries, Kerrin and I stood a little dumbfounded, as the tellers had no platform for you to place your groceries on, so we just kinda stood there trying to figure this out. We obviously looked like hill billies again because some kind packer promptly came over to us and removed my basket from my hand and ushered us over to the till point. The basket goes on the tellers side and she unpacks it!!! ok......
We it came to paying, I was asked if I had a vic card.....(hill billly time) huh??? I did not even know where to put my basket now you are asking me if I have a vic card??!!?? Anyway the very friendly teller and packer promptly get the paperwork and a pen and I join their Very Important Customer programme where I get to save money on my purchases....so there Pick n' Pay I'm a very important customer to Harris Teater!! (And I have a card and two key ring tags to prove it)
Teller "Welcome to South Carolina"
Wayne "Huh....(more Hill Billy time) I thought I was in North Carolina"....
Teller "No we are just across the border in South Carolina here"
Kerrin "So we travelled north from Waxhaw which is in North Carolina to here and now we are in South Carolina??!?"
Teller "Yes"
