The drive to Savannah was fairly uneventful.  We had decided that Day's Inn and the like were not for us and that we would rather spoil ourselves a little when were spending lots of time in the car each day.  The result is we drive straight to the Marriott in Savannah.  It turns out there were 4 Marriott hotels in Savannah - we arrived at the best one.  Wayne goes in and checks it out and immediately recognises that although it just about fits out budget for the night, we would not be comfortable in a hotel as up market as that - Tim and Jo like running around bar feet and that would definitely not go down well...

We moved on to the second best one, which was very nice - heated pool and spa, and the now normal breakfast of powdered eggs, patties, grits, oats and overly sweat cereals.  The selection of tea, fruit and yogurt was good.  On arrival, Wayne visited the local grocery store - this was quite a shock - we had now definitely entered the South and this was just like the Superspar in Howick on a Saturday morning....say no more...Wayne bought crumbed chicken, salad.  This together with the Fat Bastard Red we had, and the blue cheese went down well  - of course eaten on the floor of our suite...

We walked along the riverfront and were immediately very gently conned into watching a man teach Kerrin how to make a Savannah rose out of palm leaves...after which we had to buy a rose from him at $20...mmmm

We wondered this stretch of waterfront over two days and spent more than we should have at the small quaint little shops....

We also visited Tybee Island which had a swimming beach on the Altantic.  Of course we had to go....the water was only just warm enough to be liquid but Tim and Jo swam all the same...

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Don't dare come back with any funny accents though...there will be trouble. Megan and the other 10 children completed their swim tour yesterday swimming "uphill" against the wind for the final day. Great fun was had by all.
