I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road. -
 Roger Miller

Kissed the kids, hugged my sister and left Birmingham around 8:00.  We went through down town looking for a particular highway and promptly got turned around.  It seems that the locals take down the road signs. As we were riding around I thought to myself "man, I'll bet you can get dead here" We were stopped by a traffic light when a gentleman came walking up to us. Gary ran the red light and I followed.  As I turned around I noticed the gentleman had a knife.  Now he may have been cleaning his fingernails but we didn't stay to confirm...  We stopped in a little mom and pop convenience store to ask directions.  The proprietor came outside and told us that we were in "the worst (*^%$#  neighborhood possible" Why just last week one guy with a Glock and the other guy with a .45 got into an argument about their mother and "pop, pop, pop.. not to mention the other day when.,). We broke our rule about not getting on the interstate and left the area at a high rate of fuel consumption.

As we were heading out of town, we came upon evidence of nature's unbridled fury as we passed what used to be a neighborhood before the tornado touched down.  This was beyond what I can describe.  Gary's comment about sums up my thoughts  "HOLY COW- I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.  (See Photos)

The Yin to all of this Yang finally came when we entered the Natchez Trace Parkway and headed into Tennessee.  Speed limit is 50.  You don't want to go much faster anyway as you want to soak it in as much as possible.

We made it all the way to Paducah and are just a few miles from the Mississippi.  Dinner at Outback.   Steak, bread and two cold beers.  What's not to love?

Miles this day:  395
Miles total:       836

I can't even fathom how much destruction must have taken place there! That's nuts!

Natchez Trace looked quite pleasant though.

You forgot to mention the guy with the knife approaching you at the red light before we got to the convenience store.

LOL. We'll be downright svelte by the end. We're going to do our best to hook up with Nato. We'll see how it works out..
