No messing around to book a trek from Huaraz into the central andes. Huaraz is filled with full on mountain goats & we are mere day trekkers compared with the rest of the tourists we have meet. Booked with (finally) a very professional company called Galaxia for our trek. Our original trek was meant to be 4 days including Laguna 69 however there was a breakdown in coms but we still achieved so much in these 3 days.
Had breakie at a place next to our hostel where we meet the lovely people that we were going to trek with. We chatted for many hours in the bus on the way to our starting point of Vaqueria. Here we were given our pack ups for our lunches & off loaded all unwanted or heavy items onto the donkeys & started the walk to our first campsite
We rose to a frost on the grass & tents however all of this meant that we felt alive. With breakie at 7am we were on the trail for our hardest day by 7:30. It was a hard push however we both made a new personal record & are now proud to say that we made a pass of 4750 metres (Punta Union De Santa Cruz). We all took our time & still made it to the pass by 11:45. Was great views with an inviting green shimmering lagoon (Laguna Taullicocha) at the lookout. After all photos were taken we made tracks to our second nights accommodation of Taullipampa (4250 m). Just as cold as the previous night we were at campsite around 2pm where Bern & myself found the warmest place to be in our sleeping bags. By this point we had made a decision to trek longer the next day to return to Huaraz & see if we could make it to Lagona 69 the next day. I am sure by now I do not need to tell you that after dinner we retired.
Wake up call was at 5:30am we hard to begin with but when i was brushing my teeth & looked up to see a star filled sky the early rise was worth it. By 6am we were trekking with part of the group 7 which included our cook (6 other trekkers were taking their time & completing the trek in 4 days) with our first stop been a Mirador of the most beautiful mountain in the world
We have some catching up to do as we are now in Ecuador & it is 2 weeks after our trek finished. We spent some time chilling on the beach in Ma˝cora & our first destination in Ecuador had no computers & with been a walk into town, well in all honesty we could not pull ourselves away from the swimming pool.
Working on catching up on things now & you are in luck as the weather in Cuenca is not that nice so we are dedicating some time to our lovely readers.
