Hola all

Well you should be all jealous as we had an amazing trip. Will try to keep it as short as possible but there were so many amazing things to tell you about. Did think about Rose & Liz & really wished you had the weather we were blessed with. Trekked with an amazing group (Jo, Karen, Matt & Kat) with loads of laughs & many conversations about what food we were missing.

Day 1 - 12/02/10

For both of us the worst day was the first, with our packs filled with so much food (enough for 10 days for both of us) & not doing this kind of trekking with this much weight before it was testing. Our group of 6 started in Posada Rio Serrano which is not the normal trekking start point but we were hoping to have less people there. I really could have done with taking the boat like most other people do but at least we worked for our first meal. It was a hard 16 km slog to our first campsite (Lago Pehoe). We were hoping to reach a free campsite however we did not have it in us. We all slept like babies.

Day 2 - 13/02/10

We all woke up & discussed looking at trying to finish the W & seeing how we felt at the end if we would complete the circuit. This meant we made head ways for our next free campsite however once again only made it to a paid one (Grey). At least this campsite had amazing views of Glacier Grey along with cheap beers. Got there in good time & with sunset been about 10pm we spent the arvo skimming rocks & trying to hit small icebergs. The only rain we had was after the tents were pitched & did not last for long. Treated ourselves to a beer.

Day 3 - 14/02/10

Visited the lookout (Mirador) of Glacier Grey in the AM where we got some amazing pics. As some of us where struggling with the trekking & to reach a free campsite Karen, Jo, Bern & myself decided to start trekking to our next point & camped in the wild. I was OK until one of our team pointed out Puma prints. Would not go into the forest without Bern. Happy Birthday Claire. Cannot believe you guys are going out to dinner without me. :-)

Day 4 - 15/02/10

Happy Anniversary to us!! Thank you for all our messages. This was one of our best days!! We started trekking early in the morning & we all dug deep & were powering along. The weather was so warm we all needed to strip down to shorts & short sleeve tops. (Yes we came out of the national park with a tan). Our goal was to make Britanico campsite, yeah finally a free campsite. We all made it, eventually anyway. Poor Jo got a bit lost however did find people to feed her biscuits. Bern & myself did not even think to get some beers so we could have a drink at the top however we were in luck. Bern made friends with a mad guy from Denmark who was doing to whole trek without a tent & he swooped a cig for some Jack Daniels. Tasted so sweet after out massive incline we accomplished that day. As the campsite is so high not too many people were camping up there so you got a bit of privacy & also got to spend more time up at the lookout which we thought was the highlight view of the W.

Day 5 - 16/02/10

On our decent back down the mountain Karen fell & twisted her ankle however we were lucky enough that Bern took her tent & she found a friend to take her pack. The next campsite was not too far & we took our time getting to Italiano & tomorrow we would see how she was feeling. Spent the night playing UNO & chilling. This also meant that we could catch up with the rest of our group, Matt & Kat.

Day 6 - 17/02/10

We all started off early & our plan was to get as far as we could which meant that we could complete the W in 2 more days. Within the first hour of walking we came across a lake which backed with the hot day some of us had to swim. Incredibly cold but it was nice to wash off some of the dirt. We ended up finding some more energy & trekked to campsite Torres (paid campsite) which was very upsetting when we had to pass the spa & hotel before getting to the pitches. Bern & myself got there in time to get some cheap beers, where the rest of the group where paying double the price. Can you believe they charge double the price at the campsite to the kiosk outside the hotel.

Day 7 - 18/02/10

When we woke up the rain had settled in & would could not even see the mountains around us. We had been so lucky with the weather & had an amazing time that Karen, Jo, Bern & myself return to Natales where cheap beer & wine awaited us. Mat & Kat decided to trek on when the cloud started to lift however we had already returned back on the bus in our heads. We passed on our extra food & jumped on the bus. Returned to the same campsite where Bern pointed out that we have been camping for 18 days straight. We might treat ourselves soon to a hostel.

I hope you enjoyed our story. Talk very soon.
