I organised our employees annual summit in Lisbon, Portugal, arriving on the Sunday and working through solidly until the Friday but then I'd tagged on an extra day to see a little bit of daylight and some more of this beautiful city.

I did see a little during the conference although I was too busy preparing and organising to enjoy it properly.

On Monday afternoon we took the team to do some voluntary work in AMI's Almada centre, about 30 mins drive from Lisbon and over the river. We helped to buy and make furniture and clean the centre ready for it's opening in a much needed area.

On Tuesday evening we had dinner in 100 Maneiras Nacional Restaurant with some local Fado music - a couple of string instruments and a singer.

On Wednesday we didn't leave the hotel - in fact I slept early because it was the last exhausting day of the main summit! But meeting continued and on Thursday we went to Espalha Brasa, Doca de Santo Amaro in the Dock area.

On Friday afternoon all meetings had finished and I was free to escape! With a colleague we jumped on a train and headed out to the coast in Cascais. We raced to get to a good viewpoint from the sunset and just made it - beautiful and the fresh air I needed after a difficult (but successful) week! We had a relaxed walk around the area and swapped the fancy restaurants of the previous days with a fantastic little local cafe - busy will families and serving delicious fish dishes and desserts! Yum yum.

On Saturday I was the last one left, I hadn't had a moment to think about where to go, and I really was exhausted from the conference so I took an easy route - I got tickets for the hop on / hop off sight seeing bus and explored Lisbon that way! I had a few things in mind that I wanted to see along the route so I just got on and off for those and saw some more of Lisbon along the way.

Lisbon was a very pretty area, with a distinct character that I hadn't quite expected.

On Saturday night I journeyed home with  a pack of the delicious local pastries - custard tarts - to take for the family...
