Hi

After a early morning wake up call of 7.15am we had breakfast and left the hotel at 8.45am. Had a great nights sleep and were ready for a guided tour of Vienna. At the moment it is a little awkward to plan movements around Vienna as the Pope is visiting the city and there are Police and Army everywhere.

We toured the city by coach and had numerous stops which included visiting many of the important buildings around the city. There are a large number of quality statues and each have a interesting story.

During the early stages of the tour, the weather was appauling in that there was heavy rain and this handicapped us a little.

Aside from that, we did enjoy it and this guided tour finished at about 11.45am.  As we had decided not to attend an optional tour we had many hours free time and as we were behind on a number of things like the diary and washing etc we decided to return to the hotel early.

We did have lunch in Vienna and were caught up in the crowds who were out for the Pope. Apparently, Austria is about 99% Catholic and it seemed so in the streets. Neither Jackie or i were really impressed with Vienna at  this stage and we started back towards the hotel with another couple on the Metro and then the tram. This was really interesting trying to work there system and we found the locals very helpful and there English was excellent.

Better still - because the Pope was in the city, all public transport was free.

We eventually got to the hotel about 1.30pm and we had a 2 hour sleep. I then got onto the Internet at a local public and caught up with most of the past days.

We then had drinks with the group, went out to dinner and  then for a walk. No - i am not looking for the prostitutes.

Had an evening watching the TV sports and are looking forward to our trip tomorrow to Salzburg and Innsbruck as I have heard so much about the places from the family.

Salzburg and its surrounds are so beautiful. It is certainly hard to believe you are actually there walking the streets - you will always remember it. We always felt Dad enjoyed his European trip more when he came home and immersed himself in books about the places than he had when he was there. the food got to him too! enjooooy and keep the info coming. Spring is springing here thank goodness..
