Trip End
May 10, 2008
Taking a break from (re)listing the things I need to do - the old habit of drawing up a revision timetable to avoid the main task!! I thought I'd write an introduction to our travels. Virg and I have been talking about travelling for the last 2 years and finally it is coming to fruition. So how do we feel? I'm pretty relaxed at the moment as I'm procrastinating, via this blog, from doing the dull house-related packing and administration for whilst we are away. Virg is a little uncertain about leaping into the unknown and is avoiding any "packing anxiety" by sloping off to Spain for a few weeks to spend time on a beach, eat sardinas and dry out after the torrential downpour that bade her farewell at the airport yesterday. So all in all we're fine.
As for the trip itself, there's only so much planning that can be done. Following to the letter all the advice about not trying to cram too much in, we are looking at about 12 months of trip into an 8 month timeframe. Something has got to give! Unfortunately, we are heading the same way with the packing and will probably be forced to 'uncram' soon.
The plan (v.21) is as follows. I'm sure it will change again (and some dates are very much approximate)but it gives you an idea of the timings (especially useful for those of you we expect to meet / stay with).
July 30th 2007 - Leave the UK for Tallinn from Stansted Airport
Eastern Europe
1st August - 30th September - Working our way through Eastern Europe (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey)
Asia
1st October - Beijing, China
Working our way down through China by train, raft, camel and more train.
25th October - Kunming, China
26th October - Thailand Bangkok
28th October Thailand Ko Samui
8th November - 15th November Cambodia
15th November - 26th November Vietnam
26th November - 4th December Laos
5th December - 23rd December - Northern Thailand
Australasia
23rd December -30th December Perth
30th December - 1 Feb - East Coast Australia
1st Feb - Christchurch, New Zealand
14th March - Seattle
US and Canada
Fly back to Europe 28th March
Tour Spain for 1 month
Return to the UK Early May 2008
That's all for now. The next entries will be leaving do reviews (where we figure out how to upload photos to this bloggy thing).
