This will be just a quick entry to post a few photos of another amazing day. This is Indonesian Independence Day, and to celebrate the hotel had a greased pole climbing contest on the beach which made for many interesting photo opportunities.

The highlight of the day is the famous Kecak Dance telling the Ramayana saga. I'll post a couple of pictures now to whet your appetite, and more (including movies) when I get back to Chicago and a faster internet connection.

I had a fright today when a monkey swiped my very expensive prescription dark glasses. It was a baby, so I grabbed its back and started pulling it towards me, and all of a sudden the parents swooped at me screaming bloody murder that I would dare manhandle their precious offspring. Needless to say, I let the little one go and beat a hasty retreat from the ferocious parents. The brat sat and wore my glasses for a while (I've got one photo taken by someone else on the tour, but will have to post it later), then headed over the cliff. Fortunately, one of the park employees was able to throw food at the monkey and get it to let my glasses go. He then leaned out over the cliff and hooked them with a stick and got them back for me, completely unharmed. I was so relieved to have escaped from this drama unharmed financially or physically!

Farewell dinner was just so-so -- a fish feast on the beach. It was touristy and the fish were overcooked and bony. But we enjoyed our last hours together in a great setting out in the fresh air with the sound of the surf and Balinese music.

Up early tomorrow. Gotta pack!
