We're a little groggy this morning after our long day yesterday, but delighted that the tour is still on schedule and nothing will be missed. Our panoramic tour of Tel Aviv begins with a drive to Jaffa, with a view of St. Peter’s Church and a photo stop to see Tel Aviv from afar. It is a vibrant and modern city, and today is the beginning of the weekend in Israel, so there is a lot of traffic and pedestrians out shopping and running errands.

We drive to the Shalom Tower and hear about the founding of Tel Aviv, then walk along one of the original streets of the old city – Rothschild Boulevard. It is a broad avenue with a green parkway in the center for pedestrians and bikes. Historic and modern buildings line the street, and it is a delightful to just be out and walking and feeling the energy of this place.

We visit the bustling Carmel Market and then see the enormous new gay and lesbian center erected by the municipality. After a great lunch in an outdoor restaurant (Italian), we return to the hotel for a free afternoon at the beach. Our hotel is across the street from the Hilton, so we go to the beach at the Hilton and it is a sight to behold! So many gays and lesbians, and so many of them with small children! It seems like the value of physical fitness has been ingrained into the Israelis, as so many of the people at this spot have the bodies of Adonis!

We enjoy a delayed Welcome Dinner tonight since we got here so late yesterday. We had to change from yesterday’s plan to eat at a restaurant named "Toto" to one called “Social Club” at 45 Rothschild Boulevard. The food is international, and simply astounding. We start with a huge variety of shared appetizers (including Tuna Carpaccio), and I have seared salmon for my main. Desserts are amazing, and the owner treats the group to a glass of champagne at the start of the meal and to aperitifs at the conclusion. Many of my regular clients rave that it is the best welcome dinner they have ever enjoyed on tour anywhere! Several of us walk a few blocks after we return to the hotel to work off the calories! Heaven!
