I'm a day early, and gratefully so! I have time to meet with our local guide, visit the restaurant where we will have our welcome dinner, and then spend a leisurely evening with a couple of other guys who got here even before me! In bed by 10pm!
Thank goodness I get a window seat on the left side of the plane, and that the skies are clear! I fly south from Frankfurt along the eastern coast of the Adriatic, and all of the islands of the Dalmatian coastline are visible, backed by the rugged scenery of the Croatian coastline. The funny old lady in the seat ahead of me exclaims to her husband: "Look, the Dolomites!" She is seeing a towering bank of clouds in the distance that she mistakes for mountain peaks. She is not at all looking in the direction of northern Italy! She is too cute, though, and I do not dissuade her from her erroneous assumptions.
