We get up bright and early this morning to go birdwatching by the lake and in the fields and trees near the hotel. We are accompanied by a naturalist guide who is expert in identifying the many varieties of birdlife we see. After a half hour of birding, several clients choose to return to the hotel via boat while the rest of us walk back along the canals. We are richly rewarded with sightings.

Later in the morning, several members of the group accompany our guide to a Shiva Temple in a village about an hour's drive from the hotel. There is a special festival taking place which will make the visit interesting. I opt to remain behind to catch up on some much needed sleep and to sample an Ayurvedic massage. It is performed by two masseurs working in synchronization, and is quite relaxing. My massage is followed by a 10 minute sit in a steam machine similar to what you see in old "I Love Lucy" episodes, where you’re shut in a chamber with just your head poking out of a hole in the top. All that was missing was having my hair wrapped up in a towel! An hour and forty-five minute spa session for the equivalent of about US$50! Fantastic!

The next update will come in a couple of days as we spend tomorrow night on a houseboat where, needless to say, internet service will not be available. We’re all looking forward to what promises to be a most enjoyable experience.
