OK, OK!  We were super anti-Full Moon Party when we came to this island.  We even went down to the Haad Rin beach one day to go jet-skiing (30 minutes of the most fun ever!  We each got our own wave runners and I was scared at first but then I loosened up and let it rip, going 45 mph!!) and we were grossed out by all the little beach bars set up to sell "buckets" (among other things) to young, stupid tourists. (see pictures). But the more we thought about it, the more we felt that we would be missing something by not going, and maybe we should just loosen up and not be so old! (We had heard about some people getting robbed the night of the FMP.  As it turns out, the only people who were robbed were guys who brought Thai girls back to their rooms....  The next morning they woke up and gone was their money, camera, and phone.  These girls are still aware of karma though, so they may take your camera, but will leave behind the memory card.  They want the phone, not the sim card.  They may take your money, but know that you'll need your passport.  What good-natured thieving sluts!)
Plus my brother Nick had been sending us some dance mixes he had made while at school and they totally got us pumped filled with the urge to dance!! (Props to Nick)

We didn't want to take the motorbike out the night of the party because of the really hilly roads and the drunk/drugged driving that would be going on.  We also didn't want to take a taxi for the same reason plus have to pay 200 baht per person, each way!  So we figured we would go over to Haad Rin during the day and try to find a cheap place to stay.
We kept our room at Haad Gruad and headed south to Haad Rin at about 2pm.  We tried a bunch of different hotels and all of them were either full or charging 1,500-2,000 baht/night!  We had just about given up when we thought we would try one more place at the end of the road. They had a simple fan room for 400 baht, so we took it! (Both rooms combined was still cheaper than a taxi!)  We walked around town which was swarming with people. We were only about a 5 minute walk to the sunrise beach where the party will be.  We heard the party doesn't really kick off until 1am, so we went to get drinks at a bar, with the plan of taking a nap before the party. (Responsible party people we are)  We watched the sun set, then went back to the room to take a nap.  We awoke around midnight and drank half our bottle of "Red Cock" vodka with red bull (which is originally from Thailand and nothing like the watered down American version!) on the sunset beach.  It was totally empty and kind of cool to be there alone.  When we were feeling good to go, we got some pad thai for dinner, and headed over to the party.

Unfortunately the DJ's at the party weren't HALF as good as Nick, even though there were like 8 different sound systems and stages to choose from.  But we still had fun and danced till the sun rose behind us over the Gulf of Thailand.  Not bad.  And some of the best people watching we've done in a LONG time.  Needless to say, Jon took a lot of pictures....  ENJOY! Crazy party photos. You know the full moon is a bit powerful. Amanda's cousin water broke the night of the full moon on the west coast - just like the tides a woman's body is affected by the moon. The water in her body shifts. Crazy earth and body connections.
