Where I stayed
We check into Coral Cay resort today and this is like the best decision ever. They have a beautiful beach and some reasonably priced rooms, an awesome restaurant, beautiful grounds with tons of orchids and tropical plants, a saltwater swimming pool, great owners, really cute dogs, an awesome bar with a great happy hour with views of the sunset and even better regulars. Oh and they have a rope swing. (Not that I can go in the water or use the swing, but whatevs)
So our trip to Siquijor is now being extended until my foot heals. I would rather spend time re-cooperating on the beach then in some hotel room in Dumaguete. I can't walk around with that big backpack anyway so I will just rest here. We decide to stay until St. Patricks day next Wednesday night because they are having a big party at the hotel bar and it sounds like lots of fun!
Until then I don't do much besides read, drink watermelon juice and mango shakes and read some more. I finish my book, the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which is fantastic by the way. In the book collection at the hotel they happen to have Jon's second favorite book, 'Underworld' by Don DeLillo (first favorite is Infinite Jest by DFW for those who are wondering). And I eat up the 800+ pages in 4 days.
Jon is still up at sunrise every morning and goes out exploring on the bike everyday. We eat lunch together, usually a grilled fresh fish and we watch the kids from the elementary school next door come play on the rope swing during their lunch recess. They are so cute the way they pile on that swing and giggle and fall off and keep doing it over and over and over. It never gets old.
At 5pm we begin our happy times with a Red Horse beer (a nice alternative to the San Miguel, and a bit stronger too). We mingle with other guests, the owner David, and his friends and neighbors Eugene, Dave (with cutest dog Jack) and our favorite buddy John (and Ellie his great wife but was leaving town the next day so we didn't get to hang with her as much). We watch the sunset over the island of Negros and talk the night away with new friends.
