Ontos marked a return to my one true love: ping pong. I'll never be the best, but I love bragging about it like I am. I love the click-clack-click-clack of the paddle and ball, my trusty forehand serve and my unreliable backhand smash. They had a table set up in the big social hall at the Ontos Farm, which has dormitory accomodation for people coming through the area, and we set up a big tournament for the evening. There were a lot of people in the group who were very good so it reckoned to be competitive. I wasn't too upset to bow out in the first round in a 23-21 squeaker against Laurence, since he ended up coming in second in the tournament anyways (and earlier I'd lost to Martin, the eventual overall winner, by two points as well).

We all decided to go out for a hike after being cooped up for so long on the bus. Unfortunately we picked a trail that descended straight down into a wooded valley, so forty minutes in somebody was like, "Is this a loop trail?" and somebody else said "I don't think so," and then we realized we had to hike straight back up and out. Conversation on the way down had been keen and everyone was trying to spot a koala (no luck) and avoid tripping on the many obstacles in the path (no luck). On the way back up the conversation went a little like this:

Huff.

Yeahhhh . . . puff.

Huff puff.

I can't . . . puff. Breathe.

We were happy to hit the top just as the sun sank down behind the gum trees, and we raced back for an organic, vegetarian feast.
