It was strange to come back through Busselton after thinking I'd seen the hind-end of it. The streets were wet and emptied of the summer tourists. After picking up dinner and DVDs in Dunsburough we checked out the Read family vacation home: a lovely place, with wooden floors and high-beamed ceilings, overlooking a grassy hill, a swathe of forest, and the distant sea.

Campbell went out surfing, or tried---unfortunately the wind was from the wrong direction the whole time we were there, so I didn't get to have a go. Instead we went for a hike with Malibu up through an olive grove and out onto "Mt. Duckworth," the local "peak," which is really just a grassy hill with good views. The Aussies have a strange idea of what makes a mountain.

On our second day at the house we went down to Wicked Ale Brewery to have a taste of the chilli beer, which, suprisingly, is actually spicy. Good stuff and I wish I was able to bring a few pints home.

Tuesday we had to head out of the place and back to Perth for Campbell's birthday celebrations. The window on the 4WD that Campbell had borrowed from his parents had broken and wouldn't roll back up, so I was stuck with the wind heavily in my face for the whole three hour drive. I ended up burrowing wrong-way-in to a hoodie and snoring in the fabricky darkness.
