Relaxing day in beautiful Abel Tasman.  Slept in, then walked a bit of the track with the Sarahs, Jo, Mark and Dec.  I would've liked to go further up the coast in a water taxi and then walk back, but everyone was still tired from skydiving the day before (the girls) or had blisters (Mark) or was too hot (me).  It was alright, because we found a golden beach that was close by and laid out for awhile.  The water wasn’t too cold, which was a nice change from the frigid lakes, rivers and ocean we’ve been enduring the whole trip.

On the way back, Sarah and I explored a sculpture garden.

For dinner, we ate at this burger shack on the side of the road.  I had "The Muss," a mussel burger, and fries.  Delicious!

It was my last night, so we sat up late talking.  When I decided to go to bed, everyone who was still up gave me hugs, which was very nice.  Dec said I was, “the best American he’d ever met,’ which was a lovely compliment.  Whenever I travel, I’m always conscious of the fact that I’m representing my country.  I hope my good attitude might change just a few people’s negative opinions of America.

I returned to my tent feeling happy and appreciated, to discover that a huge chunk of tree had fallen on it.  Thank god I wasn’t in it!  Luckily, it fell so that it perfectly branched around the tent, right up against it on either side and in the back.  Naturally, Mark and Sarah had to capture the moment on film, all of us laughing so loudly that we woke a few people up, but oh well.
