FRIDAY 12/!&
Broke my toe and am fighting an infection on the base of the broken toe. French boys left for Bali. GH is wonderful--100,000 rupiah and free enormous breakfast.
Met Marc and Marie from Quebec. Nice folks, my age. Wandering too.
This is the only Asia location I have been to where the white tourist girls come here for casual assignations with the Aisan boys. Feels kinda like Pattaya for ladies. Actually, it is a bit creepy, these guys are sharks. But everyone knows the score here--kinda fun to watch.
Having a very hard time uploading pics here. Softwarre recognition problem.
SATURDAY 12/18
This island has no freshwater, accordingly no mosquitoes. Gili Meno --the next island over, has a mangrove swamp and a lake. Many birds, many more mosquitoes. I have been told that fortunes have been lost there by those who thought they would make a fortune developing the place.
Toe is getting worse-- nail is dying, discoloration spreading. There is no doc on this island, and a guy who calls himself a nurse handed me betel nut leaves, told me to chew them and apply as a poultice. Jungle remedy did not help, but I still have anti bacterial ointment and antiseptic soap I bought on the mainland. Must be vigilant about infection/sepsis in this climate-- can become aggressive.
My goal is to get to Penang-- English speaking docs there and world class medical. Health insurance will not pay for the transportation costs from here to Penang and I am three islands away from Jakarta, where I can get a cheap flight to Penang. Think I'll leave tomorrow (the 18th) and head that way.

Dammit, get yourself to civilization ASAP!! And let us know when you're received medical care.
Go to Mataram, rumah sakit (medical clinic) Risa. Great doctors... not far from the mall.
I went there when I broke my leg. The cost for the whole treatment, including cast. medicine, x-rays, etc. was less than $100. In your case, the cost should be far less. 7-24 emergency room - no extra charge. Many specialist doctors if you need an orthopedic doctor,. Most speak English
hobo--
Going to Mataram and getting a doc who "might speak English" is less than the odds I seek. Also, you know I think that you are devilishly handsome, but brother, you walk like Juan Epstein and I gotta blame your leg doc.
Let the toe fall off. It will spark a lot of good party conversation. Bule women looking for companionship in Indonesia - isn't that the subject of Eat, Pray, Love?
Now Rudy-
This toe has an affinity for its nine compatriots and, while at times a bit randy, does not want to trade them in for toes inknown.
