Travelers to Asia have often expressed bewilderment to Wandering_man about how Asians drive. WM thought his insight into how Asians approach transit would be in order.
For a successful transit experience, only two requisites exist, neither of which have anything to do with arriving at your intended destination.
First, if at all possible, pass the person in front of you.
Second--and this is very important- never, ever, let the person behind you pass you for any reason.
If you follow these simple rules of the road you, too can have a successful Asian driving experience irrespective of whether or not you ever end up where you started out intending to go.
Today I rode my motorcycle through a wedding party. Wedding parties are an on foot parade of hundreds of people through a village. It is bad luck for the groom or the bride to smile, so they look like they have been married for awhile. In this wedding party there was a bemo with a cow in it, tethered to the truck cab. (For the cow's sake, WM hopes they were Hindus, but we all know better.)
Crops are all planted, may Wander a little, perhaps to Gili Trawangan.
