Took Nicol the French Engineer and two German girls, Jenifer the psychologist and Denisea the Masters student to tour the farm just outside of town where I am growing tomatoes and small yellow rind watermelon with my share farm partner
My partner showed them all around the farm, while his wife made a Sasak fest of fried salty fish, veg curry spiced with a root that looked just like tumeric but the meat of the root was white. I bit into a fresh one and have no idea what it is. It has no Indonesian name, only Sasak. And then gado gado and rice.
Then the fruit-- we picked mango, papaya, and banana and jackfruit for dessert. It was Aunt Bea good.
. The German women were only the 2nd and third white women to enter the village. The village is very traditional and WM had to gently suggest that the Germans make some wardrobe adjustments. They were quite agreeable. For the first time local girls came to gawk. When WM first started going it was local boys and grown women. Now nobody notices me.
The visitors gifted their Sasak hosts 90,000 rupiah, about $10, between the three of them
90,000 rupiah is the daily wage for a school teacher here. A rice paddy worker get 15,000 a day. Everyone's a winner,
.
