Well friends, after 24 hours of flying and connecting we landed in Denpasar Bali. Immigration was very slow and we did not get out of the airport until almost 4 PM, so we decided to stay in nearby Padangbai.
Bali is a predomiantly Hindu island in this predominantly Muslim nation, and when we got to Padang Bai there was a procession of Hindus walking to the temple with flowers and fruit offerings as it was a Hindu holy day, the specific unknown to Wandering_man.
The Billabong Padang Bai in is a nice group of rice barn bungalows, we got ours for 100,000 Rupiah, which is about 10 USD. Could probably have bargained it to 80,000 but WW and I were dog tired.
There was a nice sitting area downstairs and a fan cooled bungalow upstairs. Spotless, and a decent breakfast of toast, eggs, coffee and a seasonal fruit plate included in the price.
We ate at the Puri Rai--both ordered fried noodle with vegetable and tempe. It was very well done, 25,000 rp each.
Got up early and caught the Perama shuttle to Lovina (160,000 rp.) The ride took us through Ubud, where WW, WM, and our new traveling friend Marloos from Holland had fruit shakes. WW had pureed fresh mango, easily the best of three delicious choices. 15,000 rp.
It rained on the top of the volcano as we rode the shuttle. The roof was so crappy people were putting up umbrellas inside the bus. At a mountain stop, a kilo of fresh strawberries was purchased and shared among the fellow travelers, which included an elderly (80+ y/o) couple of adventurers from Australia.
Got to Lovina OK, and will report more on Lovina in the next post. Will upoad pics later.
