My plane for Korea departs on Thursday!! This Thursday! I have to go to Seattle on Monday to get my visa put into my passport. I am so excited/anxious/unprepared. I need to do a lot of packing. In the meantime, let me give a bit of information about my situation...
Ulsan is a fairly large city on the SE coast of South Korea and considered to be the industrial hub of the country. Hyundai is located in Ulsan and is very involved in many aspects of life - the University, department stores, apartment buildings, not to mention all the jobs they provide! For more information about the city, check out http://english.ulsan.go.kr/. It is a fairly large metropolitan city with over one million residents and an area a little bigger than San Diego.
I will be teaching and living just outside the city in an area called Chunsang. I will live in a three bedroom apartment shared with one other teacher from the school, a 24 year old fellow with a Business Psychology degree from Calgary, Canada. Our third room is an office. Actually the apartment is not the normal for foreigners, especially teachers! Since the schools provide apartments, the norm is smaller than a US-style studio. I will be spoiled with an extra bedroom, living room, and even an oven in the kitchen (very uncommon). It is just a two minute walk to the school, where I will be working 30 hours Monday - Friday, usually with a schedule from 1p-8p. My students will range from elementary to middle school and my job is to teach them conversational English, so I should have my hands full!
