When you last heard from us, we had just returned from Bako National Park in Sarawak on the island of Borneo. Four weeks on we are now back in Thailand after having a few more days in Kuching then back to Kuala Lumpur and on to Melaka before meeting L's Mum, Dad and sis for a two week holiday!

Mon 13th Oct - Up early to go to the Serengoh Nature Reserve where there are some of only 20,000 Orangutans left in the world. After waiting for two hours at one of the viewing galleries, we decide to leave without seeing them. Head back to Kuching and buy the ingredients to make our own curry in the evening (the first time we have cooked for 5 months, other than our Thai cooking course). Spend about two hours preparing and cooking before sitting down to eat with a few cans of Stella!

Tue 14th Oct - M types up the travelpod while L sleeps in. Cook our own breakfast and lunch before going out for a wander in the afternoon, visiting "Charlottes" cafe for a fruit shake. Stay in at Fairview, have a long soak in the bath, heat up the curry and watch National Geographic until bedtime.

Wed 15th Oct - Up early to get the bus to the airport for our 11.45am flight back to KL. Once back in KL, we catch the bus to Melaka, arriving at 6pm and check into Travelling Inn Backpackers. Have a curry and a couple of hours on the internet.

Thu 16th Oct - Start our City Tour at the Independence Museum, then visit the Sultanate Palace and St Pauls Hill, where we have a great view of the old and the new city. Then visit the Stadhuuys, Christchurch and the Maritime Museum before making our way back to the Backpackers. Walk down to the Portuguese area to eat in the evening and have some King prawns and seafood.

Fri 17th Oct - Walk to Little India and have a slap up breakfast of dosa, chapatti and hoppers before setting off on the second half of our City Tour. We visit Malaysia's oldest Islamic mosque, Hindu temple and Buddhist temple before walking down Jonker Street (known locally as "Antiques Street"). Go to the cinema at night and eat at McDonalds. Just like being at home!!

Sat 18th Oct - Get up to catch a bus to Melaka bus station and then get the express back to KL. Check into Anuja again, give Poli a bath, sort out our washing and have lunch around the corner at an Indian Cafe. L picks up her new glasses and M has a haircut before we stroll to Bintang Walk to check out the shopping centres before Lesleys visit. Phone L's Mum & Dad for any last minute questions and then watch the England-South Africa game at the Anuja.

Sun 19th Oct - Pack up and have breakfast and a coffee at Starbucks. Check into Pan Pacific then visit the Menara Tower and the Twin Towers. Make our welcome banner for L's Mum, Dad and Lesley and then get the train to Bangsar and eat at La Bodega (Spanish) restaurant before getting a taxi back for an early night as we have to be up at 4.30am tomorrow. Finally get to sleep at 2.30am!!

Mon 20th Oct to Sat 1st Nov - see Chapter "Arden Tours Welcomes You To Malaysia"

Sun 2nd Nov - Back to reality! Up at 7.30am to walk the 2km to the jetty to catch the boat from Langkawi's Kuah to Satun on the Thai mainland. Once at Satun we get the bus to Trang (3 hours) and then one to Krabi (4 hours) and arrive there at 6pm. Check into the New Hotel (which isn't either new or a hotel). Buy our boat tickets to Koh Phi Phi and walk around the Night Market before a quick session on the internet.

Mon 3rd Nov - Bring our flights to Bali and Sydney forward before getting the boat to Phi Phi (supposedly the best of Thailands developed islands). Check into Sunla Guest House and head down to the beach. Later we go to "Hippies" bar where they are having a "Half Moon Party" along with a free barbeque!!

Tue 4th Nov - Book a flight from Phuket to Singapore as we have brought our visit to Singapore forward aswell due to the forthcoming visit by Chris & Lorraine (our friends from Halifax). Eat at the "Viking" where the Thai owner does all the cooking at the front of the shop in a Viking-style hat!!

Wed 5th Nov - Guy Fawkes Day today but no bonfires for us! Watch "Man & Boy" over breakfast before visiting most of the nearby beaches before settling on the one closest to us. Later we watch "The Beach" (which was filmed on Koh Phi Phi's uninhabited second island) before having a treat of mussels, seafood risotto, duck, steak, crepes and profiteroles at "Le Grand Bleu".

Thu 6th Nov - Spend most of the day on the beach and eat at a little Thai Cafe round the corner from the Guest House before having 20 minutes on the internet.

Fri 7th Nov - Watch half of "Snatch" over breakfast before getting the family photos put onto CD. Get down to the beach to find the heat is pretty unbearable, so we only spend an hour or so there and head back to the room for the rest of the afternoon to read. Eat out at Viking again and buy a couple of paperbacks on our way back.

Sat 8th Nov - Up at 7.15am to get the boat to Phuket. Arrive there at 10.45 and get a songathaew to Patong and check into Sala Thai (where we won a weeks free accommodation when we were in Koh Samui in September). As its a Full Moon tonight there are parties on all over town, but L notices there is one across the road that has a free buffet. We go there where everyone is sending candles up into the night sky in big balloons filled with oxygen. They rise until they look like bright stars. Fantastic! There is also a beauty contest, so we watch that and have a few drinks at a bar with more waitresses than customers. Bed at 3am....

Sun 9th Nov - Up late, we don't do much until the England-Wales game which is a nail biter! Eat at a Mexican restaurant next door before having an early night.

Mon 10th Nov - Happy Anniversary Heather & Colin! Go for breakfast at the company that gave us the free week at the Sala Thai for their expected sales pitch. Spend most of the rest of the day on the internet as we find a cheap place. Eat at a restaurant that offers Mongolian BBQ eat-as-much-as-you-like for less than three quid!

Hope everyone is OK. Happy birthday to Sarah for the 15th. Keep in touch................
