First stop Menindee - an hour's drive from Broken Hill. Although both towns are in NSW, Broken Hill follows South Australian time. We set our watches half an hour forward. Lots of birds where the Darling river flows into the lake. I could sit here and watch the birds all day! Coffee break at the Darling river - then Anna and I drive the 200 kms to Ivanhoe on a good dirt road.

Lunch (sandwiches) at Ivanhoe. The dirt road between Mossgiel and Hillston is very dusty and hard to drive on (especially when driving behind another car). No more luxury of hard rock roads. At Hillston we stop for afternoon tea at the bakery. We are tired and looking forward to Griffith - our stop for the night.

I didn't realise Griffith was such a large town - and affluent (!) if I compare the quality of the town's shops, parks and other public places with most of the other towns we have travelled through. Our motel is luxury too - with a pool, bbq area, micro and crockery and cutlery in each room.

Anna and Walter go for a swim, I am just happy to relax - chill out - my coccyx is really hurting after a long day of driving and sitting in the car.

For our last dinner we try and finish our food supplies: German sausages, steak, baked beans (a favourite with our Geologists), asparagus, mash mixed with Hanhdorf tomato chutney and carrots. And of course the last of our Banrock station Chardonnay and Merlot.

Anna makes us a good cup of Rooibos which we enjoy under the stars (for old time's sake).
