wow. aspen is awesome. i'm torn between vail and aspen. vail is closer to denver and right off the interstate but i-70 from denver to vail is nasty. vail's lift ticket is more expensive but there seems to be more slope. i-70 from vail was completely clean, as was US 82. there are four mountains but only went on two. don't think i need to hit buttermilk or snowmass. have to take a bus or drive to get to each mountain.
aspen highlands was incredible. i went up to 11,000 ft but you can hike 30 min to get to the top of the bowl. i had to snowplow the bowl at vail so figured this bowl would be out of my league, too. met two nuts that convinced me to go down double diamonds with them. i was only trying to take pictures then safely make my way down. glad they convinced me otherwise. snowplowed with them between trees through thick powder. i was in half way up my shins so i'm sure it was even thicker. did fine until the very end when i hit the last tree before the lift. figures.
aspen proper was also incredible. seemed much more open than highlands. 2.5 mi run. insane. gondola was nice, too.
