plan is to hang out here for a while and shred and carve unless my friend isn't around. otherwise, shred and go. winterpark is close to denver and there's a train. mountains around i-70 and threat of rock slides was intimidating enough when it was warm. thought of driving with snow is too much for me. uhm, yeah, Ouray is probably out, too. not a good rock climber so ice climbing is probably out for now anyways.

ok, shred and carve at Winterpark during the week then hang out with friends.
ha, ha, change of plans. really hate state roads and the route to Winterpark looks like it has some mean corners. and I-70 looked safe and Vail looked like it was right off it. Vail was. I-70 was ok but spun out on the exchange getting on. need to stop hitting the brakes and hit the gas when I fish tail. I hate driving on snow. spun out on the right turn, spun across the median and stopped in the left turn. a little more forward momentum or deeper in the exchange I'd have landed in the ditch. speeding warning yesterday, spin out and losing track of work phone today, guess I'm and idiot but lucky.
Vail was incredible. Now I know why people who've skiied in CO whine about east coast skiing. forget which trail to take, it's so open, you just aim for a lift and make your way there. the slopes outside the bowls are continuously groomed, which was great. ending at the top of a mogul run with nowhere to go wasn't. driving through the storm that dropped all the new snow was worth it. good thing the lifts are staggered. tiring coming down the entire mountain all at once. even the runs from the top to the bottom of the lift is longer than east coast runs. not a lot of people so there was plenty of untouched powder in the bowl and patches even in the populated areas. not deep enough for me to think about trying tricks. I'd be happy just coming here. may be see how Aspen and Jackson Hole stack up.
