Where I stayed
Reefside, our flat
A day on my own. Slightly overcast - how unusual for England - a bit drizzly too.....
The good thing is I can drive quite easily in this country and my friend Jane will help me.
Drove to the beautiful Athelhampton house and gardens first - just outside Dorchester - Its history of its inter-related families covers more than a thousand years. Much of the present house has stood over five centuries. No one really famous from what I see.
Then made my way through the rain to Sherborne Castle - built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and then the stately home of the Digby family since 1617. Just a few years ago. One of those heritage places that you cant take photos inside but very very nice. Lovely grounds also.
Then onto the nearby town and the Sherborne Abbey - please dont think we are addicted to churches but they are amazing - nearly every one has something awesome about it.
Then drove through some funny little towns and home. All good. Not lost - well maybe a bit.
