We decided to check out Notre-Dame de la Garde with Virginie on our last morning in Marsielle.
A long walk up a very steep hill but the view is worth the climb. Hearts pounding at the top, but behold - more steps..... The interior of the cathedral is full of plaques donated by people who have been saved from different disasters/illnesses as a way of thanks.
Walked back down the very steep hill - much better. Back home and talked with Virginie about life/the universe/everything for a while until it was time to catch our train. Said our goodbyes and headed for the station. 2 Hours later we got off in Montpellier and waited at the station to meet Basset, our new host.
Followed him to his apartment right above the main square (Place de la Comedie) (fantastic little apartment) on the edge of the old town. Threw our bags in the room, had a beer with our host, then went for a walk around town.
Managed to stumble across another cathedral - Cathedral St Pierre and another park looking area with a roman looking rotunda. Form the back of this was a long thin bridge looking structure which I guessed was once part of a Roman aquaduct system - turned out it was. Made our way back through the alleys of the old town to Place de la Comedie and found another nice cafe for dinner. Getting late by the time ice-cream was finished so we went the 20 steps to our apartment and retired for the evening.
