This year is my last kick at freedom for awhile it seems, an expensive kick at that...I am off to East Africa, working and bumming around.
After spending weeks, getting prescriptions and ridiculous travel medicine advice from every would-be arm chair traveller, I have been stricken with the common flu... one week before my trip, so I have been spending a lot of time sucking on horrible tasting remedies, drinking tea, napping and trying not to breath on people....that is mind you in between, inventorying supplies, weighing bags, getting gear, organizing dwindling finances and securing safety nets ( thank you VISA!!) All I can do is hope that the symptoms are gone before danish customs agents try to "quarantine" my ass....the hassles of modern times *sigh*
I guess it can be viewed as a unfortunate stroke of luck or that it is best to get the illness out of the way at the beginning...it is all about perspective...me, I just see it as a pain in the ass ( and upper respiratory tract)
So where is this all lead to you ask? Moshi, Tanzania...ancestral lands of the Chagga people and now a town nestled in the shadow of the highest peak in Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro. Here I will be interning at St. Joseph's hospital and helping out in an HIV/AIDS orphanage outside of town...time will tell how this endeavour goes...
Thanks for reading this intro, keep in touch, I may need to ask for dough if I am suddenly ransomed...
Next stop The Netherlands...
